We are a handmade rug brand from Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh — the carpet capital of India. Every rug we make is a product of place, people, and process: rooted in one of the world's oldest weaving traditions, crafted by skilled artisans, and designed to bring warmth and meaning to homes across the globe.
Born amidst the looms.
Our founder, S Kumar, didn't discover Bhadohi — he grew up in it. In a city where the rhythm of the loom is a heartbeat, craft isn't something you learn from a textbook. It's something you absorb: through the dust of the spinning yards, the calloused precision of the weavers, and the raw tension of threads passed down across generations.
Growing up at the source meant seeing the craftsmanship directly, but it also meant seeing the exploitation clearly. The finest rugs in the world were leaving Bhadohi with high showroom markups, while the local master weavers remained invisible.
Bypassing the showrooms.
Indo Knots was founded to dismantle the opaque supply chain. By establishing our operations directly within Bhadohi's weaving clusters, we cut out the complex layers of export agents, wholesale distributors, and retail showrooms.
This direct model allows us to return true value to both ends: it ensures our weavers are compensated with premium fair-trade wages and healthcare provisions, and it allows design studios and homeowners to purchase museum-grade rugs without artificial markup.

Today, we bridge Bhadohi's weaving legacy directly with interior architects and residential designers globally. We render custom layouts digitally, match dye-colors using Pantone standards, and ship direct from our sun-drying yard to your doorstep.

India's rug-making tradition spans centuries. This is not industrial production — it is a pure art form passed down through families, villages, and generations of weavers in Bhadohi. It represents the geographic, human, and material essence of our homeland.
KNOTS.
Every single knot is a deliberate architectural act of patience, skill, and presence. It is the irreducible foundation of the craft, ensuring no two rugs are ever identical. Each knot represents a dedicated second in the life of the maker.
Two techniques.

We work in two of the most respected handmade rug traditions in the world. Both are labour-intensive. Both are irreplaceable by machines. And both produce pieces that improve with age.
Hand Tufted
A tufting gun drives yarn through a canvas backing by hand — stitch by stitch, row by row. This technique gives our artisans the precision to execute complex patterns, rich textures, and bold colour work with remarkable fidelity. The result: design-forward pieces with expressive pile and lasting quality.
Hand Knotted
Each knot tied individually around the warp threads — by hand, one at a time. The oldest and most demanding form of rug-making, producing pieces of extraordinary density, depth, and longevity. A hand knotted rug takes weeks or months to complete. It is not made; it is built — to last a lifetime and beyond.

How we build heirlooms.
Every rug represents weeks of manual, sequential labor. Here is the physical journey behind your Indo Knots custom rug:
Raw Wool Sourcing
We source raw New Zealand wool (for structural strength) and local Indian Bikaner wool (for natural resilience and lanolin luster).
Dye-Matching
Our master dye-masters match wool hanks using natural extracts and safe synthetic pigments, matching Pantone directions under local sunlight.
Loom Mounting
Cotton warp strings are spun and mounted tightly across heavy vertical wooden loom shafts to form the physical grid skeleton.
Artisan Weaving
Weavers knot or tuft each yarn cell row-by-row, locking the pile fibers tightly. A single hand-knotted rug can hold over 1.5 million knots.
Sun-Drying
Rugs are washed with fresh water and dried in open-air courtyards under the sun. This locks the color pigements and fluffs the raw wool.
Carving & Shearing
Our detailing team shear the rug flat and hand-carve the pattern contours with specialized shears to create beautiful textured relief.
