Caring for Your Handmade Wool Rug

A high-quality handmade rug is designed to be lived on, not just admired. Because our rugs are made of 100% natural organic wool, they possess a built-in protective layer of natural lanolin.
This lanolin repels dirt and moisture, making wool rugs exceptionally easy to care for when you follow a few simple, professional care guidelines.
Essential cleaning guidelines
To keep your wool area rug looking pristine, regular gentle maintenance is key. Vacuum your rug once a week, but avoid using a vacuum with a rotating beater brush, which can pull and tear at the fine natural fibers. Instead, use a suction-only setting or a hand attachment. Additionally, rotate your rug 180 degrees once a year to ensure even wear from sunlight exposure and foot traffic.
"Caring for a handmade rug is a small, quiet ritual that honors the craft and preserves the weaver's legacy."
Dealing with unexpected spills
Spills are a part of life, but they do not have to ruin your rug. The secret to successful spot cleaning is speed and blotting. Never rub a wet stain, as this drives the liquid deep into the core wool pile. Instead, immediately blot up as much liquid as possible with a clean, white cotton towel. Use a mild, pH-balanced soap diluted in lukewarm water, blot from the edges inward, and rinse carefully.
By observing these basic care rules, your artisan rugs will retain their structure, luster, and soft feel for decades.
